Formed in 2004 in Richmond, VA, Javier Ramos and Scott Nicholas of the studio project, Indoor Sun, called up and met with guitarist Chris Slater for a meeting of the minds (god help us) and a demo of works. Adding the percussive element of James "Goatleggs" Cornell, they began to hone their own unique blend of original music and a live set including their own Zen Stylee cover tunes. (Blah! we hate cover tunes!)

Based on a strategy of melodic progressive structures, jazz, rock, classical, blues, and mindless self indulgence, SOZ hit the studio and punched out their first tracked CD release in September of 2004 at Minimum Wage Recording Studio. Thanks to Lance Kohler for all his time, patience, and mad skills on the mixdown and mastering!

Currently the Zen boys are writing and arranging songs for their second release and getting ready to launch show dates to promote both CDs.

Slaves Of Zen's second CD, Manifesto was recorded and released in September of 2004 after a lot of blood, sweat, and tears (and that was just from playing paper football). It contains ten songs, written and arranged by the band, ranging from progressive, hard-rocking, in-your-face tracks to the smooth, spacey, melodic sounds of SOZ and lots more in between.
