Formed in the Summer of
1999 by twenty-something friends, all originally from seaside towns
in Massachusetts, the Uncle Shaker band has a collective mission in
mind: to create and produce great home-based original Americana
music, have fun, have more fun and, when possible, raise resources
and awareness for organizations making a difference in this world.
Organizations that have benefited from Uncle Shaker include: The
Salvation Army World Trade Center Disaster Relief Fund, Give Us Your
Poor, The Foundation Fighting Blindness and The Leukemia & Lymphoma
Society.
The band, recognized for their "unique, real and original"
instrumentation, vocals, and harmonies, consists of Jeff Foss on
acoustic guitar, vocals, slide whistle; Vincent McCarthy on
saxophone, clarinet, percussion (shakers, of course) and harmonica;
Barry Oates on acoustic guitar, vocals, bass, percussion and Jeff
Timperi on trumpet and flugelhorn. Their innovative line-up and
sound earned them a seat as one of the top artists of 2004 on
MP3Unsinged.com and a lot of attention on the world wide web from
music enthusiasts.
Two of the band members are childhood chums who have been making
noise since the bicentennial. The other two members came to form the
band through a graduate school connection. Home studio and internet
MP3 technology has given them recent recognition and the opportunity
to capture and share original songs and sounds with many world-wide
listeners tapping into the new Indie music sites cropping up every
day. As the band has endeavored to use their muse as a vehicle for
helping those in need, they have in turn raised thousands of dollars
for many worthwhile organizations.
A percentage of proceeds from their 12 track self titled album will
benefit
HAWC an
organization raising awareness and taking action to end men's abuse
against woman and their children. |
